Santuari de Lluc Monastery | Mallorca, Spain
The Knights Templar were guardians of ancient esoteric knowledge. They understood the power of Sacred Geometry as well as the geomagnetic and telluric currents that run underneath the earth. Templar sites and Churches were created in accordance to these principles and often replaced previous locations of pre-Christian worship.
One such place is the Santuari de Lluc Monastery on the Balearic island of Mallorca, Spain. Nestled deep in a forested valley of the Tramuntana mountain range (now a UNESCO World Heritage site) the land was donated to the Templars following the reconquest of the island from the Moors in the 13th century. But archeological finds confirm that it was a Sacred site in pre-historic times as well as during the Roman occupation.
The Templars were also closely connected to the worship of the Black Madonna. At Lluc, according to legend, a shepherd boy discovered a dark wooden statue in a cleft in the rock and took it to the local priest. The statue was placed in the local church but three times it miraculously returned to its cave. The villagers recognized this as a message from God, so a small chapel was built to honour the place where the discovery was made.
Since then Lluc has been the religious and spiritual centre of the island and an important pilgrimage destination. The current Church dates back to the 17th century and under the guidance of the iconic architect Antoni Gaudi other improvements were made at the beginning of the 20th century.
Visiting this sacred site one can appreciate why the Templars developed this land for their worship and rituals which were strongly linked to the Christian gnostic tradition.
I hope you will join myself, Monika Evans-Napier and Robin Johnson and experience this place of great spiritual significance for yourself at our Mallorca Mystical Retreat October 28-November 3rd, 2024!
